Will iMessage/WhatsApp work with an eSIM?

Updated over 3 weeks ago

Yes! WhatsApp only needs an Internet connection once you’ve completed its one-time phone number verification.

Here’s what that means for your ORA eSIM:

  • One-Time Verification 🛡️
    • Use your existing phone number (physical SIM or eSIM) to verify WhatsApp.

  • No SIM Needed After Setup 🔄
    • Once verified, WhatsApp will run purely over data, your ORA eSIM provides that data.
    • Even if you later remove your SIM or switch to ORA data only, WhatsApp stays logged in and fully functional.

Will iMessage Work with an ORA eSIM? 🍏✉️

Absolutely! iMessage operates over the Internet (Wi-Fi or mobile data) and doesn’t require a phone number to send messages.

In case iMessage is not functioning as supposed to, follow the following steps:

Troubleshooting iMessage on iOS 🔧

  1. Open Settings:

  2. Tap Messages:

  3. Ensure iMessage is toggled On (green).

  4. Tap Send & Receive and verify your Apple ID email is checked; uncheck any phone number that isn’t active.

  5. Restart Your iPhone 🔄

    1. Press and hold Volume Down + Side Button until the power-off slider appears.

    2. Drag the slider, wait 30 seconds, then press and hold the Side Button until you see the Apple logo.

  6. Verify Data Roaming ✈️

    1. Make sure Data Roaming is On for your ORA eSIM under Settings → Cellular (or Mobile Data).

    2. Confirm any other SIM/eSIM has roaming Off to avoid conflicts.
