Does ORA work on Cruises?

Updated over 10 months ago

Unfortunately, ORA eSIMs rely on standard terrestrial cellular networks, so they do not work once you’re out at sea.

Here’s why:

  • Cruise Ship Networks Are Satellite-Based: While docked or near shore, you might briefly pick up a local cellular signal—but once you’re fully at sea, cruise ships switch to proprietary satellite networks that ORA (and most eSIM providers) can’t access.

  • No Shore-Based Towers: ORA connects to partner providers’ land-based towers. At sea, there aren’t any shore towers available, so your ORA eSIM will lose signal.
